Event Logistics?
« on: September 05, 2008, 06:29:50 PM »
So I was wondering what people's plans are for food and stuff, and how many people are tenting it? Also is there running water at the site?

Well Joe and I are tenting it.  We're bringing some simple food for two that's easy to prepare...  Not a whole lot.

There isn't any running water. Prepare for many trips into town.

I'm going to be picking up a couple of these things, or something similar at another store.  You'll usually find them in the camping section of sporting goods.  Usually hold about 2 gallons each and are light (when empty), collapsible and durable.  I'd definitely recommend people try using these to keep a personal water supply around.

I had a very bad experience with those things... but I guess we're not hiking for six miles with them and full gear so....

Exactly...  We used to use them in Boy Scouts for years.  They're pretty handy compared to alternatives.

Since water is kind of a necessity, if none is available on-site, is there somewhere you can go within the camp facility for water?  If not, where could one go for water without paying ridiculous amounts for bottled water?  I don't imagine you can just walk into McDonalds to fill your canteen...  Also, any idea how far our site is from the parking area?

And yeah, the water jugs weigh practically nothing, but when they're full they're heavy...  Water is heavy, duh! :)

There's a Tchedeski's less than a five minute drive from the Site, and I'm sure you can get the big big bottles of water from there. If not, there's also a full-sized supermarket down the road.

I'd suggest buying a couple of big jugs at home and bringing them up to Site with you.

That's what I ended up doing, and was probably going to do anyway.  Picked up two 2.5 gallon collapsible water jugs at REI in Cranston for $7 each (Chappel View Shopping Center across Sockanosett Cross Rd from Garden City)  Walmart and other stores have them too, but the ones at REI are lighter and cheaper.  We plan to bring them to the site full with water from home.

Is the parking lot relatively close to the site?

These rocks that stick up from the road also scare me, especially with my already low car with suspension that's seen better days.  Are the relatively obvious and easy to see coming in the road if you know to look for them?  Would it perhaps be a good idea to mark them with signs posted by the side of the road or something?

The Site, if we got the first one, which I think we did, is very very close to the parking lot.

And the rocks are pretty obvious. If you want we can try to work something out. They sound worse than they are, I think.

Also the rock is obvious but if you ignore it, she will not ignore you.

So to reduce my stress and to keep me from getting sick the week school starts (I have my first class on the Monday after game) I have decided to stay at a hotel near the site. Any of you familiar with the area have any suggestions? I found two but it is hard to tell how close they are exactly to the site.

Also, I can bring up a decent folding table and camp stove for cooking food. I plan on hitting the nearby supermarket to pick up my food for the weekend, as I am coming right from work and visiting Ken and Tracy.

Which ones and where I can tell you based on their map location. Also there are numerous picnic benches also so if you forget the table all should be well;)

Concordian about 1-2 miles away, easy drive, bit of a dive

Best Western 1-2 miles away, easy ride and decent hotel

Colonel Roger Brown House - 3-4 miles, not sure of the place but within 10 min

Lyttleton Inn - Almost 10 miles away, quaint but 15 min drive w/o traffic

Of them I suggest the BW because it is next door to the sushi house I am sure many of us plan to attend. For some of us it is a tradition. Wonderful food, atmosphere and fairly good prices.

Most sushi restaurants I've been in have a variety of sushi items available as well as vegetarian and chicken tempuras...  And not all sushi contains raw fish if that's what your scared of.  There are tons of variations of Maki (a roll containing a protein or vegetables and sticky rice wrapped in a seaweed wrapper and sliced).  It's what most people think of when they think of sushi, but could contain fish, chicken, vegetables, or some combination thereof...  Usually there are vegetarian and non-fish options available... And it's delicious!! :)

Excellent! It is actually the seafood and the seaweed that I don't enjoy.
