Combat game mechanics are there to ensure that a character does what the character is capable of doing. Social game mechanics are there to ensure that a character does what the character is capable of doing.

See, I actually prefer role playing out social interactions, as opposed to just chopping them out. Its a pretty lame method of political intrigue, to simply walk about, and say "Social Challenge- I say something that convinces you to do "A"
I think its much more fun the other way. :-D

It's a pretty lame combat if you just chop it out, too. The whole point of social mechanics is that sometimes my character should be able to intimidate your character, regardless of my ability to convince you of it. Too many social chops and it feels like we're just playing RPS, but too few and it feels like 1/3 of our character sheet is entirely useless.

I like to Roleplay and then go "Oh. By the way. I've got an insane amount of social traits and Persuasion up and this many social retests." And I almost never throw social chops against a PC. I don't care as much about an NPC. (:

And if said seven year old had magic hoopajou that made them unconvincable, you'd never have reason to suspect it if you never threw chops.

I don't know- I guess I'm spoiled on "real" larps. The ones where if you can't swing your sword fast enough, you don't hit the monster, and if you can't act with guile, you'll never convince the count of anything.
Besides, you're dealing with a little girl. Everyone should know that little kids will spend every piece of willpower they have. :p

The ones where if you can't regenerate holes in your chest cavity, you don't get to play a werewolf.

Walking into the room and using gifts is totally unrealistic and way too playing by the sheet instead of playing your character.
Its like walking down the street and seeing a banana peel and checking it for wyrm, its annoying and unrealistic.

I don't know... If a glasswalker dropped it Coatlicue might just check it for wyrm... you never know with those glasswalkers...
