Arianna and Brody scene on the Mound
« on: August 25, 2009, 10:00:54 AM »
Please keep in mind that Brody's gift is active for 4 days, meaning that on the mound Brody's gift is still active.  Arianna has been consumed with the fact that she thinks brody will kill her, he is extreamlly intimidating to her right now.

One day and one night as you didn't spend any traits at the time you activated the gift. I asked you how long it went for and you said, one day, I think. You didn't spend any traits and retroactively spending them doesn't really work.

Also, rereading the gift description...

For every Social trait you spend, I'm down one trait for one day and one night.

So... I'm down four traits for one day and one night.

Way it has been handled in the past was if I spend 4 its 4 traits for 4 days and 4 nights
being its an Intermediate gift and level 4 in TT

I ask for an ST rule call on that please, because that's not how it's written :)

Considering in the writeup for the gift it says, quite plainly, "These effects last for one night and one day."

For Marc's purposes: Page 194 of the Player's Guide, top of the right hand column.

Yeah, the tabletop text is pretty friggin' clear.

As it is, the gift becomes much more effective in MET than it is in TT - you reduce die pools by one die per two successes on your roll, which means you're likely to remove at two dice (if you roll particularly well) from someone's efforts for one in-game day, which in a tabletop game may be one scene due to fast-forwarding, or the character deciding to take a day off - in larp, it's nearly guaranteed all session.

The spending-traits-as-successes mechanic means that the likelihood of only hosing them a little bit is gone, and you can now hose them more or less as much as you choose to.   This is bad enough when it's something like the basic Galliard gift Distractions, which lasts for a round.  Making the intermediate gift go from one round (for the same cost, plus a Gnosis) to an entire session of play is also pretty hosing.  Asking for it to do all that plus go for multiple days is...  excessive.

Not to jump in at the end and nit pick, but all players have the right to privately state to an ST their expeditures of traits....... Because when the day comes that I have to put someone down, I am not going to state out loud when I spend 8 rage to wipe the floor with someone.  ;D

Agreed, Joe. Just because it wasn't said to you as a player doesn't mean the ST wasn't notified of any additional spending.

Final Call:  I will be reconsidering the future use of the Gift, however in the current scene, the Gift will be said to remain active for that day.  I'm not interested in redlining anything that doesn't need to be redlined.  The Gift has, in fact, always been run that way (right or wrong).  Not Mike nor anyone else would have had reason to believe we wouldn't still run it that way.  Mike did inform me of the trait expenditure at the time of activation.

And that is that :)

Your response is confusing.

But anyway,
It's my recomendation that it is stated that the gift works for one day and one night no matter how many traits are spend to knock that person down traits.

Arianna's reaction wouldn't change. I just wanted clarification on the way the gift works.

well now I highly disagree with what you put it basically makes it fatal flaw out of combat and for an intermediate gift its not worth the points

I'm not opposed to the idea of a 5-trait expenditure cap on all Gifts like this.

The number of traits wasnt the issue with the gift the easy misunderstood time frame was the issue.
I am not a fan of the caps because quite frankly werewolves hose people, especially shadow lords.  Galliards hose people its the way it works.  Also keep in mind that if someone uses this gift they are down traits too in socials its not a free gift.  Yes they can spend a wp to refresh but they are shit out of luck the rest of the day.

Also Capping the PC's means you have to Cap the NPC's and that becomes very difficult to manage.  Not keeping the balance in powers makes it feel like we're facing a god which isn't very fun. (aka Wyld Spirit)

Sorry one mor point

Intermediate gifts are supposed to be difference makers.
The step from Fostern to Adren is HUGE in Garou Lore and the respect level goes way up.
Fear and Intimidation from the Adren title alone needs to be protected.

Garou respect Rank because they know what they can do.
This game Rank is like being Royalty in England noone gives a fuck anymore unless you fuck up.
Gifts that hose people like this one are equalizers.

Brody would never fuck with an Elder Shadow Lord because he knows what they can do and it intimindates the crap out of him.
