Title: Did-You-Know: Private Message Labels
Post by: Marc (Admin) on February 17, 2012, 09:22:16 PM
This post will be the first in a series of "Did you know?"-type topics on certain small, hidden, or otherwise widely unknown features of the forums that can make things easier and/or more organized for you.

This [Recurrence TBD]'s Topic: Private Message Labels

The forums include a system for managing any number of labels that can be assigned to your PM's, enabling you one-click access to a filtered list of PM's that apply just to that label.  With the amount of information that passes back and forth over PM's it can be handy to have categories for things like "Pack", "Staff", "Teaching", "Learning", etc.  Of course, whether or not you choose to use labels, and what you choose to use them for are entirely up to you.

When in the Private Messages (http://rageacrossthecape.com/forums/index.php?action=pm) area, click on Manage Labels (http://rageacrossthecape.com/forums/index.php?action=pm;sa=manlabels), listed under "Preferences", located in the upper-left panel, next to your PM list.

The interface is pretty intuitive.  You can easily add new labels and manage existing labels by renaming/saving, or checking-off/deleting.  Once you've created at least one label, your list of label links will appear in the upper-left panel.

Every Private Message must always have at least one label.  By default, the label is "Inbox."  You can only remove the "Inbox" label once another label has been applied.  Labels are easily applied using the drop-down in the lower-right corner of each PM (you will not see this unless you have created at least one label).  Using the drop-down, you can add and remove as many labels as you like.  Any message may have any number of labels at any given time.

If you delete a label, and it is the only label assigned to a particular message(s), the message(s) will automatically default back to the Inbox label.  The Inbox label, is a system label and cannot be deleted.

And that's PM Labels in a nutshell! :)
