Title: In game internet
Post by: Joshua Dreller on August 08, 2010, 03:14:48 PM
Can a character learn something off of the internet?

Example: Could Joshua learn some kind of science or craft, or some other ability by using the internet as a resource.

If yes, would this be restricted to the 1st dot? Or could he get more than that?

Would the potential gain be hindered or help by the Computers Ability?

Odd line of questioning...but I'm curious.

I would say No, not solely from the internet. I mean, combined with other things, perhaps. But usually things are more than just reading Wikipedia. Academics 1 is High School Diploma. Science 1 is a rough equivalent. Figuring out such things on your own in a month using the internet would be.... Eh.

There ARE internet-based universities (ie, Univ of Phoenix). HOWEVER, degrees and the knowledge they represent are limited in scope. Degrees in IT/Automotive are fine, Molecular Biology, not so much.. so it really depends on what you're looking to learn and what you can gain access to that are going to determine what you can learn via internet.

Caveat: Time is also relative, but see learning times for that..
