this always bothers me and feel free to ignore me.
I have one functioning eye.
But I still have depth perception.
What I dont have is side vision on that side.
sorry always bothered me the write up ww gives and how people play it.

Yeah, you lack parallax, but there's other depth perception cues to be had, especially if you're moving.
Also, Mike, I didn't know you had only one working eye.

Yeah I'm completely blind in my right eye.
Birth Defect.
My optical nerve doesn't connect to my eye correctly because of a misshapen eye.
My eye is more circular then oval as it should be.

Also. Who cares about depth perception when shooting a gun? Who cares how far back it is? You don't control the power of a gun like you do a bow and arrow or thrown weapon.
Sorry, I was also mildly irked by this.

Having known someone with no eye at all (and naturally liked to freak people out with his glass eye), the flaw is itself flawed, which should be no surprise.

Fake eyes are fun.
A blind friend of mine recently had someone make a key fob out of an old one she had to replace. I am keen for her to get new fake eyes so that I can get a key fob too.

I have a friend who has been blind in one eye sense birth, and she has no problems with driving, or even throwing a ball. HOWEVER, one of my Navy buddies who caught an eye full of metal dust, got infected and lost his eye (now THAT was a month of people ensuring everybody wore there PPE) did lose his depth perception and was always knocking over things he was reaching for. Maybe it's a case of the brain hasn't caught up yet.
On a side note. Who's watched/ was there for Will Wheaton's Keynote address at Pax East?

OK i can see (no pun intended) where perception would be off for someone who just lost an eye versus someone who was born with it.

So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this thread is at least prompted by my portrayal of Jack after he lost his eye. I will explain why I am playing him as I am.
So yeah, when your brain isn't used to it, you lose depth perception when you can't use one eye. I wasn't really roleplaying this at last game, I really lost all of my depth perception when I covered my eye. I'm also specifically noting the lack of dept perception because of the mechanics of the the "one eye" flaw.
I would agree with you that if you started your character off with the flaw you shouldn't have the loss of depth perception and perhaps you could buy off the loss of traits on ranged attacks, but for now, it makes sense for Jack.

I stand behind I'm not entirely sure why that effects guns. Archery and thrown combat yet... But guns don't require any real sense of depth. They're point and click.

Not knowing the reason, I may have something to share? With a gun, my understanding is something you have to aim a tad higher, the further out the target is to ensure a more accurate shot. The bullet decreases in velocity and height as it moves further away from the gun itself.
In the short term, and probably normal gun firing...I can see how it wouldn't effect things too much. When sniping or long distances, I can see how it would.

I was always taught -not- to close one eye when firing a gun, like you sometimes see in movies and such, because it takes away from depth perception or general targeting ability. So...there's my .02

You close one eye when you're firing a rifle. You keep both eyes open if you're firing a handgun.
So Sayeth the guy that was in Iraq and in firefights.
The eye closed for rifle is that you know the size of a human, and thus can determine distance by the apparent size of a person (we don't kill no little people). No depth perception required. For hand guns, you align your sites with your dominant eye, but you need your second eye open because a hand gun you can tilt all sorts of funny ways, whereas a rifle you tend to socket into your shoulder when firing. The second eye open allows you to determine the trajectory of the weapon, because even the slightest change in grip and posture can change your site picture, thus you have to "eyeball" firing with a handgun.
Case in point, I am awesome with a rifle. Caroline sucks at it because she can't close one eye. I am the suck at handguns. Caroline can is freaky/scary good with handguns, because you can fire with both eyes open.
Seriously... she's fucking scary with a handgun.

I am pretty nasty with a handgun myself. Top three in my unit for four years. I never close an eye for rifle shooting, but I get all mixed up because for some reason things that are done with two hands but have a dominant hand role I switch dominant hands(I'm strongly right handed, but I swing a bat, fire a rifle/shotgun, and shoot a bow with my left hand as my dominant hand.)
