Spiritual Encumbrance Rules?
« on: February 28, 2011, 01:35:20 AM »
I vaguely remember there being some sort of rule about how many Talens/Talismans/Fetishes one could carry around/have dedicated or attuned to them. I don't think Benjamin is in any danger of going over any limit, but I wanted to have an idea for future reference as well.

I know you can have one "item" dedicated per point of Permanent Gnosis (where we let a set of clothing count as 1 item, or a courier bag with contents).

But I have very little recollection of what that number was based off of for anything else, other than it somehow being related to Gnosis.

Could someone give a quick run down on Rage's house rules for these things?

There is a Fetish whose specific purpose is to allow you to carry a bag with stuff in it and only dedicate the bag. Does RAtC have a House Rule which eliminates this?

I was told that if the bag was dedicated, you could take everything inanimate in the bag across as long as you didn't pull the stuff out.

While we're here... can we get this clarified too?

The bag your thinking of Shonn allows you to carry more stuff in it then it should be able to carry, as long as its not a mechanical or electrical device in one piece.  The Magpie's Swag, Bonegnawer tribebook i believe.  Both Rage and Hidden flame have the rule that if you dedicate a bag, you can carry the items in the bag across the gauntlent, but to pull them out costs y ou a gnosis per item, last I checked.

I believe Dave is right.  Jerry takes his dedicated Shopping Cart'd backpack into the Umbra with him for one Gnosis, but if I want to pull out any of the twenty things inside it while in the spirit world I spend a Gnosis.

As for mundane items vs. talens/Fetishes, you get your perm Gnosis rating of EACH.  They're tracked separately, and the cap for each is your perm Gnosis.

Example: Jerry has 4 permanent Gnosis.  He has the maximum four dedicated mundane items (clothes, throwing axe, backpack, and blade bracer).  He also has two of the possible four dedicated talens/Fetishes (his sword and his necklace).

Magpie's Swag is PGtG and available to any tribe.
The Whole Gym Bag is the Bone Gnawer version of the same fetish.

And you're correct, the difference is not allowing things to be carried but allowing MORE things to be carried.

My mistake.

Example: Jerry has 4 permanent Gnosis.  ... He also has two of the possible four dedicated talens/Fetishes (his sword and his necklace).

It was unclear to me, the last time I checked, how talens were tracked.

It's true that fetishes and talisman-dedicated items are tracked separately, but talens I am not so sure about.

Are rituals things considered one item like clothing is?  I know most of us Theurges tend to have a lot of small odds and ends.

Last I was aware, Mike is correct, though I think we allowed theurges to carry twice their perm gnosis. This is separate from Dedicated items. You may have your perm gnosis worth of dedicated items and (for non-theurges) your perm gnosis worth of talens on you; they are not mutually exclusive.

"Ritual Supplies" are usually carried in a bag/backpack; so it falls under the same rule as backpacks, clothing and any other 'bulk' item (bag of M&Ms, jar of dirt, etc). As long as the backpack is Dedicated, it (and it's contents) will cross with you. If you would like to take something out of the backpack (while in the umbra) it costs 1 gnosis per 'item'. small items (marbles, jellybeans, coins, etc) can be taken out 1 'homid fistfull' per gnosis.

Example:
Pebe wants to perform Rite of Cleansing on a group of garou just coming back from killing some wyrm. From his Medicine Bag (backpack/messenger bag-sized that has Rite of Shopping Cart on it), he pulls out a few sprigs of sage, a box of matches, and a small wooden bowl. This costs him 3 Gnosis. He then begins to perform his rite.

I hope this helps.

Bow = 1 item
Quiver + Arrows = 1 'bulk' item. I would limit the # of arrows said quiver could hold though.

i have never seen a standard quiver to hold more then 24, and 12 makes it easier to draw and shoot, so i was assuming mine had 12 plus the one bane-arrow.  :)

that would be acceptable. It's basically the same as a gun's clip.
